The Proposed 2026 Canby Schools Levy

Why is the District Considering a Levy?

Canby School District Has Made Significant Reductions

The district has already cut 11% of its budget in the 2025-26 school year by reducing staffing, class sizes, and a 50% reduction to art and music programs in grades K-6.

State & Federal Cuts Have Created a Crisis

Even with this year’s 11% budget reduction, Canby School District projects a $6.3 million budget deficit for the 2026-27 school year, which would mean the elimination of 60 teaching and education support positions.

School Viability at Risk

Reductions in staffing can make school viability a challenge for the District. Schools are community anchors where students learn, parents volunteer, traditions are built, and Canby pride is rooted.

Fewer Teachers = Bigger Classes, Fewer Opportunities

If the proposed Levy does not pass, the District must increase class sizes by at least five students per class and implement blended classrooms with two grade levels together. Career and Technical Education, music, art, reading specialists, and school counselors would be reduced or eliminated entirely. And reductions would be made to athletics and extracurricular activities.

The 2026 Proposed Canby Schools Levy – Measure 3-636

The proposed Canby Schools Levy, if passed, would authorize a property tax that would raise $5.9 Million annually and would preserve teaching positions, maintain reasonable class sizes, and maintain the future viability of Canby Schools.

This five-year levy includes strict citizen oversight – every dollar goes directly to classrooms and teaching, not administration.
